Caden Bent is an Architectural Student with a Special Interest in Lighting Design.
My name is Caden Bent, and I am a third-year architecture student at the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas, with a minor in Interior Architecture and Design.
I created this website as a platform to showcase my work, skills, and architectural vision—a curated portfolio where future employers and collaborators can explore my journey in one place. It also serves as a personal record, capturing my growth as a designer and the evolution of my approach to architecture.
My passion for architecture began in sixth grade—an early but defining realization that has shaped my academic and professional trajectory. From the start, I immersed myself in the discipline, taking courses in Design and Modeling, Engineering Principles, and Civil Engineering and Architecture. Beyond formal education, I explored architectural literature to deepen my understanding of styles, drawing techniques, and spatial composition, refining my skills through years of sketching residential floor plans.
Since entering architecture school, my appreciation for the craft has only intensified. The process of transforming an initial idea into a fully realized spatial experience is what drives me—each sketch, iteration, and conceptual exploration reinforcing my commitment to design excellence. One aspect of architecture that particularly fascinates me is lighting design—not only for its functional necessity but for its profound impact on spatial perception. I incorporate daylighting as a core element in my work, leveraging its ability to enhance architectural experiences and create immersive environments.
I draw inspiration from renowned architects and designers such as Louis Kahn, Tadao Ando, Eero Saarinen and Richard Kelly, each of whom has profoundly influenced my approach to architecture. My long-term goal is to complete my Bachelor’s in Architecture, pursue a Master’s in Lighting Design, and ultimately establish my own practice. Through my work, I aspire to craft spaces that seamlessly integrate light and design, enriching the built environment with thoughtful, dynamic architecture.
I invite you to explore my portfolio and follow my journey as I continue to evolve as a designer.
Design Philosophy
Light—pure, seamless, constant
It is the silent architect, shaping space, depth, and emotion. My designs harness light as a material—malleable, playful, and deeply experiential. With each project, I seek to craft spaces where illumination and form converge seamlessly, creating environments that captivate, inspire, and endure. Light is not merely seen; it is felt, guiding movement and perception, enriching the built world with thoughtful, dynamic architecture.
